National Australia Bank (NAB) migrated its Murex trading platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its capital market activities by improving performance and agility.

The bank used Murex's MX.3 platform for trading, risk, and processing functions. It found that its on-premises data center was limiting its ability to perform optimally and engage in innovation, so it migrated to AWS, which increased computational capacity and flexibility. The migration took 15 months to complete and involved NAB working with AWS Professional Services for support.

The migration resulted in improved performance, stability, and resiliency with no outages reported.

Numerix, a financial technology company, needed to find a way to scale its high performance computing (HPC) solution as client portfolios grew in size. They were able to do this by migrating their HPC analytics solution to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and using AWS Batch, which provides fully managed batch processing at any scale.

This allowed Numerix to run calculations that used to take a month in under 40 minutes, near real-time for trade and risk management. By using dynamic resource allocation on AWS, Numerix can now meet demanding client constraints more effectively, by providing service-level agreements of 40 minutes or less on portfolios with tens of thousands of trades.

They also use AWS Step Functions, a low-code, visual workflow service for modern applications, to run its serverless capabilities and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for increased memory and storage capacity.

This has allowed Numerix to be more prepared to take on larger portfolios and respond to sizing changes in days or hours.

Two core North American data centers will migrate to AWS, while State Street will expand the use of Microsoft Azure cloud as a platform for business applications
